Parental Leave Day 29 – Grammy and Abuelito

Posted by Greg February - 15 - 2010 - Monday ADD COMMENTS

Welcome to our regularly-scheduled lazy day. The day in which I hand off my son to other people who love him.

OK, so it’s not completely like that, but it is to a certain degree.

Morning: the usual. Except that his nap was crap-tacular and I didn’t get any sleep when he finally went down.

Afternoon: after lunch, I left him with my parents and stopped into my workplace to say hi and stay on top of what’s shaking there. Apparently, while I was gone, he didn’t go down for a nap that easily. The great thing about “apparently” is that it means I wasn’t there to witness it. Read the rest of this entry »

Parental Leave Day 28 – Visiting Nana

Note for regular readers: Day 27 is also posted below; I decided not to gang them together this time, even though I’m posting both on the same day.

Not too eventful a day.

Cole had a short but fuss-free nap in the morning. We did a few small things, had a few small laughs, and then I packed him up for a visit over to Nana and Grandpa’s place. Auntie Brim was there, too, so there were plenty of helping hands around.

Parental Leave Day 27 – Dog Walk / Cry-it-out

Day 27 – The Day We Walked The Dogs. Again. Later, Cole Wailed.

Had a great sleep in the morning again, after a false start waking up grumpy. Then lunch. Then walked the dogs. I filmed him in his jolly jumper, which I’d post here, except Windows Movie Maker isn’t co-operating.

Naptime sucked. We’ve been trying to get a handle on getting a proper sleep schedule, and nothing seems to work. Read the rest of this entry »

Parental Leave Days 25 & 26 – Morning Sleeps

Day 26

A pretty easy day. Days with visitors are always a lot easier mind you.

In the morning, he decided he was ready for a nap after only about 30 mins of being awake. Works for me! We both fell asleep together in the La-Z-Boy. He was asleep for over an hour when Grammy came through the front door for her visit. By this time, he was already sleeping lightly. The fuss from the dogs woke him up the rest of the way; that’s OK, though, he was pretty much done.

Parental Leave Day 24 – Swimming w/ June Mommies

Posted by Greg February - 5 - 2010 - Friday ADD COMMENTS

Today went pretty smooth, except that he had no late afternoon nap. He’s slipping into being a 2-nap guy, but the timing is all wrong. He’s more than ready for the next nap after each 2 hours awake, but he fights the 3rd nap so hard (even harder than the 1st two) that it doesn’t really work out.

Morning: Mama Monkey had already been up with the little guy for an hour and a half before I rolled my sorry ass out of bed (thanks, Alie!). So I had very little difficulty entertaining him for a little while. I could see that he was falling asleep as we were walking around, so I fed him a little bit and then let him crash out on my chest. This time I had the remote handy and could see the TV. I napped for about half an hour with him (warm, cuddly little child on your chest? Who WOULDN’T sleep?) and channel surfed for a bit. As it turns out, we had to get the show on the road at 11:00 to make it to a swimming meet-up with the June Mommies in Barrhaven. So I broke the cardinal rule of parenting and woke a sleeping baby.
