As of today, Mama Monkey and I have been married for 2 years. With a lifetime ahead of us, just a drop in the bucket, really. For over a year of that, we’ve been happy (usually!) parents of one wonderful little boy.
I’d like to report that I did something mind-blowingly romantic, but anyone who knows me knows that I’m both clueless and forgetful when it comes to this kind of thing. On top of that, Mama Monkey actually had quite a busy work day, learning how to test her lab mice by having them swim in water-filled tubes. The little guy and I took the dogs to the Conroy Pit, came home, and I screwed up naptime so we piled back in the car for a good ol’ fashioned car nap. Family excursion into the back field to test-pitch our tent for our upcoming camping trip, back to the lab for a few minutes, and then it was bedtime for the little Monkey while I went to get our romantic dinner.
As we did a year ago, we got take-out sushi. The monkey was having a particularly crazy day today (3rd day in a row of having a 1-nap day), and we didn’t really want to make any plans that would preclude our ability to put him to bed the moment it seemed right. Our favourite sushi restaurant (Sushi 88) was closed due to the civic holiday, but we discovered a very good second choice in Genji. Quite excellent sashimi (though I’m never a fan of the fake crab-meat in a sashimi platter), good rolls, and at a reasonable price.
I jokingly said to Alex, “One day we’ll actually be able to go OUT for our anniversary sushi. But then we’ll probably stay at home anyhow ‘coz it will have become a tradition.” You never know. In all fairness, we have plenty of people who would happily babysit the little guy while we go out, so it was totally and completely our own choice to do it domestic-style.
Finishing the day with a little slow dance, and then it’ll be time for bed.
Nothing too eventful. Nothing too excited for all y’all to be reading about. But it was lovely for us. So lucky to be in love with my best friend! (Thanks, Jason Mraz.

Happy anniversary you two, sounds just about perfect
The only thing that would have made it better is no fake crab in the sashimi platter (Alie likes it, mind you). If it was replaced by more tuna or salmon, I would have been in heaven.
We celebrate almost the same way every year — takeout and maybe a movie rental if we’ve managed to get the kids to bed early. I actually love it, too! Happy anniversary!
It’s not a bad way to spend an anniversary, really. We’ve had the Monkey since before our first anniversary, so he’s a part of it all, really. I don’t feel the need to “escape” him on our anniversary…….yet…..!
