Mama monkey’s sister is getting married in June. The bachelorette party was today. Let me qualify that: it was ALL day. From 9am until any time now… it’s currently 3am and Mama’s not back just yet.

Previous to today, the most time Zeke has spent away from his mother is about 3 hours or less. Enough time for a movie. In a recent “playcare” visit (childcare at the gym where she goes to get her spin on sometimes!) he didn’t even make it the hour and a half. So it was with great stress and worry that she went from that to not seeing him for an entire day. Heck, we weren’t even sure he’d take milk from the bottle for me. To her credit, she didn’t make a big fuss out of it. And to my credit, I only showed a little fear.

Crawling Baby

Our youngest has been mobile for a few weeks now. However, his mobility has been limited primarily to rolling around side-to-side. Which I understand is pretty normal, and which the older monkey probably went through as well (my memory is failing me already!). He has had a strong grip since he came into this world, and he has also been using that grip to pull himself along in short spurts. Even more interestingly, if you prop him up near a couch or table that’s “just right”, he’ll stand there unassisted for a good long while.

Universe of Sciahnce

There’s a particular question our eldest asks many times per day. It’s one that’s giving us mixed feelings… on one hand, we’re super proud of our young man showing curiosity and a desire passion for things beyond cartoons. But on the other hand, it’s something that requires much adult intervention and seemingly endless research.

“Can I do a sciahhhnce?” he asks (intentionally mispronouncing “science” because it’s hilarious).

The short update first: our second child has discovered giggles. And there’s nothing that turns the two of us parents into idiots faster than the attempt to make baby giggle. I remember going through this with Cole, and it’s going to be the same with Zeke. Taking every opportunity to hear that absolutely delightful and heart-lifting giggle, even if it means uttering complete inanities and making ridiculous faces. A baby’s laughter is the most wonderful thing in the world.
