Spoonman

At supper-time, Alex gave Cole some food in a bowl, and a spoon. He’s been messing around with utensils fairly often, and has even managed to get some food into his mouth sort of. But tonight he held it in a fairly correct way, and fed himself at least 2 good well-coordinated mouthfuls. He was REALLY using the spoon, and with full intention (and execution!) of eating the way mommy and daddy eat.

Was pretty awesome!

That is all.

Language is fun

The Monkey is rolling right into the world of language and communication. For those of you not exposed to my proud daddy enthusiasm all the time, here are some of the highlights:

“CAT!” — We don’t own a cat, but as I think I reported a few blog posts ago, he started using this word to describe any 4-legged creature. This is good (according to some random source I can’t validate) because it shows he’s CATegorizing things. *groan*.

Six String Nation

Posted by Greg August - 7 - 2010 - Saturday 1 COMMENT

As you might remember from the Canada Day post, we were quite excited about the pictures we had taken with the Six String Nation guitar. Well, they arrived Wednesday, and here they are for your enjoyment. But first, some long-winded rambling!

My favourite part of the shoot was when Cole was allowed to hold the guitar by himself. He had only been walking for a few weeks and was very unsteady on his feet. Alex and I held the guitar by the headstock at first, but were quickly told, “Let go! It’ll be fine!” This is a one-of-a-kind guitar 10 years in the making. I was reluctant, but ultimately we did let go. Cole loved it. The independence. The feeling of being in the spotlight. In the pictures it looks like he’s grabbing the strings, and he IS— to play them! He knows about guitars because of me, and started plucking away. So cute, so fun. You’ll see one shot in which I thought he was losing his balance and I leaped in to keep the guitar safe.

2nd Anniversary

Posted by Greg August - 2 - 2010 - Monday 4 COMMENTS

As of today, Mama Monkey and I have been married for 2 years. With a lifetime ahead of us, just a drop in the bucket, really. For over a year of that, we’ve been happy (usually!) parents of one wonderful little boy.

I’d like to report that I did something mind-blowingly romantic, but anyone who knows me knows that I’m both clueless and forgetful when it comes to this kind of thing. On top of that, Mama Monkey actually had quite a busy work day, learning how to test her lab mice by having them swim in water-filled tubes. The little guy and I took the dogs to the Conroy Pit, came home, and I screwed up naptime so we piled back in the car for a good ol’ fashioned car nap. Family excursion into the back field to test-pitch our tent for our upcoming camping trip, back to the lab for a few minutes, and then it was bedtime for the little Monkey while I went to get our romantic dinner.
