Day 14 went pretty smoothly.
He started off with the same trick as Day 13… act all tired in bed, fooling me into thinking he’d just fall asleep and let me continue my own sleep. Nope. Got up, did some typical morning “get ready” stuff, and quickly realized as we went a bit past his naptime that a fight was forthcoming. So, I “cheated” a bit and went for the car nap. The car nap might be a crutch, but it can’t be good for either party’s mental health to go through a battle just for some sleep.
After the car nap we had some lunch (chicken, pear, “instant cereal in biscuit form”, crackers, water), and I called Grammy up for a visit.
She arrived a bit before food was done, and then basically took over. While he was awake, she wanted to hold him and goof around with him, as is every grandmother’s right, so I took the opportunity to do a combination of some work-related tidying and slacking off on Twitter (@gregpettit if you want to follow; I wouldn’t if I were you, but you’re welcome to). I heard him getting fussy, but also heard some footsteps going upstairs. “Must be going for a diaper change,” thought I. But the lack of crying stretched out for several more minutes until I figured I should go upstairs and see if maybe Grammy needed some supplies or help.
There was my mom, watching TV, with no Monkey to be found.
“Put him down?”
“Yup. I warmed up the rest of that bottle for him. He finished it off, but a bit of rocking put him to sleep.”
HIGH FIVE!
Grampy came over for a bit of a visit, too, arriving before his naptime was over. Socialized a bit, and when he woke up they basically took care of him again for several minutes. I could tell he was getting a bit fussy and the dogs were getting a bit restless, so a trip to The Pit (“The Best Place On Earth For Dogs”) was in order. Organization was easier with 2 extra pairs of hands, and before too long I was off.
Uneventful, normal walk (no napping, but relaxed and enjoying himself). Got home, and mommy was there for him.
Slept fairly normally throughout the night, but the early bedtime saw him awake at 5am. Sucked a bit for mommy, but he went back down in around an hour, giving her the rest of her sleep before we all woke up for good.
What a great ending to the week! More than made up for Thursday’s challenges. The only downside was that between the “car nap” and the short afternoon nap, I didn’t get to sleep at all myself. A worthwhile trade-off all things considered. I generally need the nap more when he has mentally exhausted me, and that didn’t happen.
