The morning nap was great. 9:30-ish until 11:15-ish. He slept on my chest. That method of sleeping doesn’t always guarantee longer sleeps, but it sure promotes the possibility.
By the time we woke up, went through a diaper change, had some food, played with some toys, and read a book, it was time for his next nap. Crazy how fast that interval went, and we didn’t even really “do” anything.
Afternoon nap was significantly more difficult. He didn’t want milk, but he wanted some “soothing” by way of sucking on something. Trouble is, he doesn’t use soothers, and doesn’t keep anything else in his mouth long enough for it to have a pacifying effect. He went back and forth between the bottle’s nipple and his hand, until I finally took the bottle away for good, and stood up for some rocking/bouncing. He was upset, and kept nuzzling for a boob. “Still don’t have boobies,” I told him. He eventually settled for sucking on my t-shirt, soaking the left sleeve almost completely. But it put him to sleep. All told, it took about an hour. Then he only slept for 30 minutes.
After slowly letting him wake up, it was time to “do something”. That something turned out to be a dog walk. Again. I don’t mind too much, since it saves me having to walk the dogs later, and gives us something to do to get some fresh air. So we packed up and headed out to the park.
Here’s the idiot part: I forgot to change his diaper after his nap. So by the time we were at the dog park, he had gone about an hour and a bit since his last change. Usually he’s passed at least a little bit of water by that point, especially after waking up from the nap. Plus, I wasn’t sure if he had finished a half-hearted morning BM yet. I remembered before the walk started, so I chose the “short loop” just in case he got fussy. Which he did. Added a bit of extra distance to the short loop to make it worth our time, and headed home before he got too cranky.
That was it for the daytime duty, but nighttime wasn’t easy. He fought sleep like I’ve rarely seen him fight sleep. He was hitting himself in the head and tugging at his ear just to stay awake, in addition to his usual squirming and making mouth-noises. Not sure why he hates sleep so much, but it makes for a very tired mommy.
