Parental Leave Days 25 & 26 – Morning Sleeps

Day 26

A pretty easy day. Days with visitors are always a lot easier mind you.

In the morning, he decided he was ready for a nap after only about 30 mins of being awake. Works for me! We both fell asleep together in the La-Z-Boy. He was asleep for over an hour when Grammy came through the front door for her visit. By this time, he was already sleeping lightly. The fuss from the dogs woke him up the rest of the way; that’s OK, though, he was pretty much done.

Bit of visiting, bit of food, and we went as a trio to Wal-Mart on the premise of getting some batteries for one of his powered toys. After only a few minutes there, I could tell he was getting tired again already, so we headed out.

Grammy took him upstairs, and I started warming a bottle. But within the 5 minutes it took to warm the bottle, he had already gone to sleep. Stayed down for about 1.5 hours, while my mom and I visited. After he woke up, he spent some “alone time” with Grammy while I walked the dogs. The ‘day’ portion of the day was over.

Day 27

An unexpected morning!

Last night, I was up late trying to get a few things done (no, not just playing Super Mario Bros. Wii) so I was dead tired in the morning. I half-wandered into the waking world at 7am to let the dogs out, and it turned out that Cole was getting up at around the same time. I fell asleep, basically being lazy and letting mom take care of him.

It got better than that! Mom finished most of her morning prep and then fed him and bounced him until he fell asleep again. So basically, I got to “sleep in” until he woke up at 10:45. Can we say AAAAWWWWWWSOME??? Whoop whoop!

Did a few morning things, up until lunchtime. D’Anjou pears weren’t a hit again. Weird. They were soft and sweet (I had some).

After lunch, we packed up and headed to Ikea. He had a car nap which continued for a while after parking at Ikea. I played Nintendo DS. He enjoyed Ikea, but we didn’t have any luck finding a bookshelf that would fit in the space we have for it. Hopped over to Chapters, while the whole time he was getting hungry.

Traffic was bad. Which sucked, because he was getting a hankerin’ for some MEM. As we approached Bank along Hunt Club, the battle cry went forth, which was “give me MEM or you will pay dearly!” Unfortunately, it was not within my power because I was out of extra (I *did* have some but used it). After an agonizing 15 minutes of screaming on the road, we finally got home.

Surrounded by his distractions, he didn’t even need milk that badly! Warmed some up just in time for him to realize he was hungry again.

Then… the day was over again!

Afterthoughts

It’s getting to the point that I’m recognizing my daily entries as being somewhat boring. But this is a good thing! It means that our daily routine is settling for the most part, and I’m more or less up to the various challenges. Whether it’s food, sleep, or entertainment, we can pretty much get through any day without too many events.

Now that there’s only 2.5 weeks left in my parental leave, it feels almost like a waste! OK, not really, but I sure wish I knew what I know now all the way back in the beginning!
